Attention: Susan Forseille, PLAR Director, and PLAR Assessors

Thank you for your consideration and for allowing me to present my adult learning in this portfolio. I’m pursuing PLAR because I believe I’ve gained experience in all 8 competencies through my professional work, volunteer work, and my personal life. Currently, I’m balancing part-time studies with the full-time responsibilities that come with raising a young family. Completing my degree is a goal I’ve had for many years and I’m thoroughly enjoying the learning process thus far. I’ve chosen to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree (my earlier education is primarily focused on science and mathematics) as I’m hoping to broaden my knowledge base. I have confidence that obtaining my degree will help me pursue future professional endeavors.

My professional life has been varied and consists of my time working in marketing for a software company, working as an electronics technician and owning a photography business . I have drawn from my experiences at each profession to put together a comprehensive outline of my learning in the Discussion of Learning. While I’ve mainly drawn upon my learning in professional environments, I’ve also included examples of learning through volunteer work at my children’s schools and from my personal life.
Creating my portfolio has been an eye-opening experience. It’s allowed me to truly see what I’ve learned from each of my professional experiences, and how I’ve developed knowledge and skills that have transferred from one profession to another. I look forward to speaking with you further about my learning experiences and I’d like to thank you for your time and consideration.

I am requesting 15 Upper-Level credits towards my Bachelor of Arts degree through my competency-based portfolio.

Sincerely,
